PRESCHOOL

School's Out For Summer!

As I stood outside the fenced in playground observing for the last time ten of the most adorable preschoolers chasing one another with such energy I told another mom, "If I knew that JP wouldn't be back for another year of preschool in the fall, I'd be bawling right now."  Moments later, when the whistle blew and Ms. Schollmeir and Ms. Griffin gave each child a hug good-bye, tears streamed down my cheek!  I had a pit in my stomach- the same feeling I have each year when JP adds one more candle to his birthday cake.  That bittersweet feeling.  That feeling of accomplishment - I vividly recall his first few weeks of life when my daily goal as a brand new mom was simply to keep him alive one day at a time! That feeling of abundant gratitude and joy for a new chapter.  And that feeling of helplessness- having zero control over time and realizing that these are the days I will long for in the years to come.  I better get used to this though!

After much discussion with one another, numerous teachers and friends, A and I have decided to send JP to preschool for one more year.  Although he'll be five at the end of this month, we feel that JP will thrive better as one of the older kids in his Kindergarten class.  The decision to "send" or "hold back" a summer birthday child is very controversial- I cannot believe how opinionated some people are!  We've tried to steer clear of debates regarding this topic!

Honestly, I think JP is ready for Kindergarten- I just don't think I am.  And after a preschool pick up like today, I think we've made the right choice!
