When I started working in the fertility industry a few years ago, I realized very quickly that I was old. Well, I wasn't officially old at that time... but the magic age of 35 was approaching. After all, this is when one is termed "advanced maternal age". Of course, I truly do not believe that the worrisome statistics and risks associated with delivering a baby after age 35 are really that more than age 34.5. I guess the medical world needed to draw the line somewhere.
So when I found out I was pregnant last summer I frantically ran to my pregnancy wheel. I calculated that I was due just one week shy of my 35th birthday. Whew.
And what a blessing it was to deliver a healthy baby boy while I was still young. Because today, yes it is true, I am of advanced maternal age.
